Pattern suggestions for fall!

Pattern suggestions for fall!

Now that the days are slowly becoming colder and it's getting less appropriate to wear a t-shirt and shorts, we're taking a look at sewing patterns for the new season from both Friday and other awesome indie brands. If you relish in the coziness of fall and get excited about sewing for the colder season then you will love this blog post! Continue reading to find out more.

The benefit of making your own winter wardrobe is that you choose your own style story, so what do you want to say with your personal style this year? Are you a capsule wardrobe kind of person, or perhaps you love swishing in pretty dresses all year round? Do you wear lots of light layers or want something super thick and snuggly? Whatever your preference, there are lots of awesome sewing patterns to suit you, as well as ways to adapt patterns to create your own desired style. We have listed some patterns we're excited to try this fall - including some Friday Patterns as well as other brands, with a little bit about our sewing plans.

Outerwear:

The quilted jacket trend is very much still in full swing which we are excited to try this season. The Ilford Jacket Pattern is a great choice for a simple jacket silhouette that you can easily quilt!
Below are a couple of other jackets and outerwear pieces we want to try.

Cambria Duster:

Another one of our patterns, which is a beautiful classic shape and length.

More of a casual style for day to day layering, depending on your fabric choice you can also do a snuggly jacket for lounging in!

Roni Hood - By Viki Sews

A detachable hood for layering under existing winter coats, a great and chic way to add some interest to your styling.

Tops:

This fall we are planning on quite a few different top projects; capsule wardrobe friendly as well as statement pieces. The Elysian Bodysuit is a lovely knit fabric pattern great for making in a few colorways to layer up or simple tuck into jeans.

Marnie Blouse and Mini Dress - Tilly and the Buttons
Tilly and the Buttons newest release is a lovely Top and Dress pattern with optional pin-tuck detailing on the front bodice, and gorgeous sleeves. This is definitely a statement piece but how beautiful would it be for fall styled with jeans and boots.

Dresses:

There are a few key dress trends coming through this season; including a maxi/longer length dress styled with boots, simple wrap style silhouettes, and button up tea-length dresses. Our Hughes Dress is a beautiful timeless piece that would be lovely styled with a cardigan and boots.

Estelle Dress - By Sew Over It

This is a knit fabric pattern and a gorgeous simple fitted silhouette with tie up front. Gorgeous for day to day stylish loungewear or even a more dressed up look depending on the fabric choice.

Matilda Dress - By Cool Stitches

The Matilda Dress is a summery maxi dress but also very easy to layer in case you’d like to wear it in the colder months.

Pants & Overalls:

Our patterns of choice are great styling pieces for layering and creating the perfect capsule. The Chandler Pants by Untitled Thoughts are a great pair of simplistic pants that can be worn so much in fall. We have a Heather Blazer and Chandler Pants bundle which is a great combo!

Riley Overalls - by True Bias

The Riley pattern is a classic overall design with a relaxed fit and two lengths. The perfect layering piece.

Valley Jumpsuit - Peppermint Magazine (free pattern)

This is a free pattern and lovely for layering with big chunky boots and a maxi style coat. Hack the arms to make them longer as well, for a more fall/winter friendly style.

That is it for our pattern suggestions for fall! Hopefully it was inspiring for you and that you found something new to try.
