Give Directly
What They Do + Why We Love Them:
Give Directly transfers cash to households in extreme poverty via mobile phone-linked payment services. Unlike many charities, Give Directly uses rigorous and independent experimental evaluation to ensure that these transfers are actually making a positive impact in the lives of recipients. What's more, over 90% of every dollar raised goes directly to families in need. Givewell, a nonprofit that evaluates charitable giving, has named GiveDirectly as one a "top charity" for the past five years. So far they have raised over 100 million dollars to help lift families in Uganda and Kenya out of poverty. Read more about them on their website.

What They Do + Why We Love Them:
The American Association of University Women (AAUW) is a non-profit organization that advances equity for women and girls through advocacy, education, and research. The AAUW has been around since 1881. In fact, one of its first major projects was conducting research to disprove the myth that a college education would result in infertility(!).

Today, the AAUW pursues a wide range of initiatives, from combatting sexual harassment in the workplace to funding educational opportunities for girls and women in STEM fields. AAUW has consistently received the highest possible rating from Charity Navigator.

Against Malaria Foundation
What They Do + Why We Love Them:
The Against Malaria Foundation distribute long-lasting insecticidal nets to populations at high risk for malaria, an infectious disease that kills half a million people every year (and sickens 400 million more). Each net costs approximately $5, lasts for three to four years, and protects two people on average. GiveWell, a nonprofit that evaluates charitable giving, has estimated that for every $3,000 spent on these nets, one life is saved. What’s more, every $1m spent fighting malaria efficiently improves the GDP of Africa by $12m. In short, AMF offers one of the single most powerful, cost-effective ways of reducing human death and suffering.
